What is “The Big Day?”

Stratford began The Big Day three years ago, patterned loosely after Texas A&M’s “The Big Event.” The Big Day, which is essentially just a day of service, was organized by the Stratford Leadership Council, which consists of the heads of every club and organization on campus. Three years ago, over 500 students participated, and we were able to not only paint the shopping center wall by the practice fields, but we also did yard work for elderly community members and helped fix up local businesses.
Last year, around 700 students and 100 adult volunteers did yard work at houses, gardened and spent time with residents at a retirement home, fixed up a neighborhood pool, created 2000 care packages for kids in need, created and distributed 40 care packages for the homeless, mulched 150 trees, aided 20 local businesses, and more. This year, we are planning to do something similar in nature, thus keeping the tradition of small projects throughout the community that ultimately have a profound effect on the Houston community.
